Alaskan Copper
LED retrofit project
LED Retrofit Success
A 100-year-old marine supply company in the Seattle area earns nearly $70,000 a year by converting to LED lighting. In August of 2015, Planled designed and supervised an LED conversion for Alaskan Copper’s Kent, WA storage and manufacturing facility. The company has been fabricating and supplying the Northwest marine industry with corrosion resistant metals and other products since 1913. Planled proposed replacing a mixture of 908 inefficient HID and florescent lamps with 908 LED products. The utility incentives combined with energy savings created a payback of just over two years.
Utility Incentive
Planled conducted an audit of the lights and submitted the recommended retrofit to the governing utility, Puget Sound Energy that then offered energy reduction incentive that covered 61% of the total project cost.
Return on Investment
Converting HID and fluorescent fixtures, on one to one basis, to LED fixtures reduced the consumption by 786,592 KW. This is a reduction of 68.4% electricity cost saving per year. This resulted a simple payback of 2.3 years.
O&M Savings
The longer-lived LED replacement fixtures reduced O&M costs by an estimated $22,832.24. This additional financial benefit reduced the estimated simple payback to 1.58 years.
